Tyalgum is an old cedar getting village, located virtually under the rim of the caldera due west of Mt Warning. This agricultural community produces mostly dairy and beef, but many new settlers are using diversifying into alternative crops and enterprises such as coffee. Tyalgum is famous for its hall, renowned for its acoustics and the attendant Classical musical festival each September). This is remarkable, as the hall is constructed of wood with an iron (tin) roof. The acoustics are said to be superb as long as it doesn't rain! Stroll into the arts and crafts shop for local handicrafts and homewares, or enjoy fresh from the oven treats with your coffee at Flutterbies Cottage Cafe, a coffee and gift shop situated in the "Old Bakery" building circa 1926. And whether you're a local or a visitor to the region, there's something for everyone at the historic "Diggers" Family Day, an annual fundraising event in support of local community groups and volunteer services. Hikers and cyclists with strong legs (to handle the many hills) can stay in the Tyalgum Hotel and other nearby accommodation. |
Top up or refresh supplies at the Tyalgum General Store or Bartrims Garage, located in the old Norco Butter Factory, adjacent to Norco Park which provides day picnic facilities with a BBQ, tables and public toilets and a staunning view to Mount Warning. Tyalgum has convenient access to Wollumbin National Park and Mebbin National Park, and very steep access (not recommended) on foot to the Border Ranges and Lamington National Parks. Hikers heaven! |
